Framing: The main framework is constructed from fabricated folded sheet steel. Its extreme rigidity, coupled with the compact design, makes it ideal for delivery fully assembled; eliminating mill erection. Machine weight: 383 Kg (845 lb).
Creel: Casablancas type bobbin holders for up to 16 roving bobbins, 358 by 178 mm (14 by 17 ins) diameter, or eight large double meche rovings, or from cans.
Drafting System: The multiple end drafting zone is a pendulum arm, three line, double apron system with a recessed top apron roller to permit slip drafting. This system is capable of drafting 100% wool of 56’s quality or finer with a total oil content up to 1.5% blends of wool and synthetics, or 100% synthetics.
A wide range of drafts is available. Ratch is adjustable in steps of 19 mm (¾ins) between 216 and 273 mm (8 ½ and 10 ¾ ins) and it can be altered without tools or gauges.
Self Twist Rollers: Both top and bottom self twist rollers are hollow cylinders with a composition covering especially developed to impart false twist into the draft strands by a lateral reciprocating motion of the rollers as they rotate to deliver the strands.
Each roller runs on external air bearings. The air bearing support for the bottom roller is fixed but that for the top roller is pivoted to enable the nip pressure to be regulated by a dead weighting system; the pressure applied controlling the amount of twist inserted in the strands. The rollers have a rotational surface speed of 220 metres per minute (240 yards per minute) and reciprocate at 1,000 oscillations per minute.
Two synchronised epicyclic gear assemblies generate the reciprocating and rotational motions of the self twist rollers.
Winding Heads: Four 127 mm (5ins) traverse, grooved plastic drums are mounted on a common drive. Package diameters can be up to 254mm (10 ins).
Main Drive: The machine is driven by a 0.75kW (1 HP) squirrel cage A.C. motor with speed adjustment through an inverter drive.
Suction: An individual inbuilt suction unit is employed to clear fly from the drafting zone and broken end waste from the self twist rollers. Fan motor 0.38kW (0.5 HP)
Lubrication: Apart from minor points of lubrication, the Type 888 Self Twist Spinner operates on air or sealed-for-life bearings.
Compressed Air Requirements: 4 Bar (60 psi) absolute (3 bar (45 psi) above atmosphere) at a rate of 113 litres/min. (4 cfm).
